Facebook Stalking
During a practice session for BANG 19 last weekend, one of my teammates mentioned she had joined Facebook, despite her aversion to social networking sites. She was happy, though, that it got her in touch with some old friends.
Taking her example, yesterday I joined Facebook too. Mostly it was to see if I could find one specific friend from college, but also, I'll admit, to try and get nonoriddles out a little more. After signing up, of course, Facebook wants me to add friends, and points out all potentials. So many people! Brothers, cousins, real life friends, casual acquaintances. I was about to add some, when I thought, isn't this virtual stalking?
I mean it's great for people who you don't see all that often due to distance, but adding friends that I see relatively regularly kind of gives the impression that I'm checking up on them or something, so it kind of made me uncomfortable. I didn't add anyone. (Today, I added my wife, who also joined yesterday, but mostly just so I could list her as my wife in my profile.)
After all that, I did a search through Facebook to see if I could find my friend and, well...
She's on LinkedIn.
